Prisoner dies after health complications

An inmate death in Cyprus was recorded on Tuesday night at the Nicosia General Hospital, the Ministry of Justice announced.

The deceased was an 81-year-old prisoner who was serving a six-year sentence for sexual offences.

According to the Ministry, the inmate was facing serious health problems and was undergoing regular dialysis treatment.

He was being held at the Central Prisons while receiving medical care for his condition.

Police informed and procedures underway

Authorities confirmed that the Police have been informed about the inmate death and that all required procedures are being followed.

The exact cause of death will be determined following a post-mortem examination.
