Police checks across Cyprus resulted in one arrest, 247 traffic complaints and three positive preliminary drug tests, as officers carried out coordinated patrols in key urban areas.
The operations aimed to prevent serious crime, maintain public order and strengthen the public’s sense of security, according to police.
One arrest and 441 vehicles stopped
During the overnight operations, police arrested one person for offences including the illegal possession of burglary tools and the unlawful possession of property.
Officers stopped 441 vehicles for checks and inspected 552 people travelling in them.
Police also carried out checks at 35 premises as part of efforts to tackle criminal activity. No complaints were recorded following these inspections.
247 traffic complaints recorded
Traffic enforcement checks resulted in 247 complaints for various road traffic offences. Police also opened 10 cases involving suspected traffic violations.
Of the complaints issued, 43 concerned speeding. Seven vehicles were impounded during the investigations.
Drink-driving and drug tests
Police conducted 94 alcohol tests, resulting in six complaints.
Officers also carried out six preliminary drug tests, three of which returned positive results.
A positive preliminary test does not necessarily establish a final finding of drug use, as further procedures may be required.
Police operations to continue
Police said coordinated operations to prevent and combat crime would continue daily, with an increased presence, targeted checks and immediate operational responses.
The stated objectives are to protect the public, maintain public order and improve the sense of security across Cyprus.
