A rescue operation was launched at 11:15am on 28 September 2026 after a rowing boat carrying 21 people capsized in the sea off Dasoudi, Limassol.
The Joint Rescue Coordination Centre (JRCC) activated the national search and rescue plan “Nearchos” to coordinate the operation.
Helicopters from the Police Air Operations Unit and the National Guard’s 460 Search and Rescue Squadron were deployed.
Vessels from the Port and Marine Police, a lifeguard boat from the Limassol District Administration, personnel from the Limassol Police Directorate and ambulances from the State Health Services Organisation (OKYPY) also took part in the operation.
All 21 people were brought safely ashore.
Paramedics assessed them at the scene and confirmed that they were in good health, after which they were released.
