A change in the weather is expected on Monday, with isolated rain or thunderstorms developing during the afternoon, mainly over the mountains and inland areas.
Weak low pressure is affecting the region, with conditions initially expected to remain mostly clear before cloud cover gradually increases. Cyprus rain could then develop later in the day, while temperatures will reach 35°C inland.
Showers and thunderstorms possible inland
Winds will blow mainly from the south-west to north-west, light to moderate at 3 to 4 Beaufort, becoming moderate to strong at 4 to 5 Beaufort along the southern coast later in the day.
The sea will be slight to locally moderate.
Temperatures will rise to 35°C inland, around 31°C on the coast and 22°C in the highest mountains.
Clearer conditions overnight
Monday night will be mostly clear, although increased low cloud is expected at times, particularly in coastal areas.
Winds will become downslope and light at around 3 Beaufort, while the sea will be calm to slight.
Temperatures will fall to 20°C inland, around 22°C on the coast and 13°C in the highest mountains.
Unsettled weather to continue through Thursday
Similar conditions are expected on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, when temporarily increased afternoon cloud could produce isolated rain or thunderstorms, particularly over the mountains and inland areas.
Temperatures are not expected to change significantly and will remain close to the seasonal average.
The prospect of Cyprus rain will therefore persist over the coming days, with the greatest chance of showers and thunderstorms during the afternoon.
