Lightning sparks fire at café-restaurant in Paphos

A fire broke out in the early hours of Friday after a lightning strike, causing extensive damage to a cafe-restaurant in the Lara area of Paphos district.

The Fire Service said it received a call at 2:55am. The Polis Chrysochous Fire Station responded with two fire engines.

Roof collapses inside premises

The fire broke out at a metal-structure cafe-restaurant with a corrugated metal roof. Firefighters brought the blaze under control at 4:44am.

The fire caused extensive damage to the premises due to the flames and the high temperatures that developed.

The roof also collapsed into the interior of the building.

The Fire Service determined that the fire was caused by a lightning strike.
