Seasonal low pressure is affecting the region, while a disturbance is expected to bring a significant change to Cyprus weather on Thursday and Friday, with rain and thunderstorms forecast across parts of the island.
Wednesday will begin mostly clear, although locally increased cloud around midday and early afternoon is expected to bring isolated showers, mainly over the mountains. A brief isolated thunderstorm cannot be ruled out.
Winds will initially be light and variable at force 3, gradually becoming mainly south-westerly to north-westerly at force 3 to 4. Along parts of the southern coast, winds may temporarily reach force 4 to 5.
The sea will be slight, while temperatures will rise to 36C inland, 31C on the west coast, around 33C along the remaining coasts and 28C in the higher mountains.
Temperatures drop overnight
Conditions will be mostly clear on Wednesday night.
Winds will be mainly north-westerly to north-easterly at force 3 to 4, while the sea will be calm to slight.
Temperatures will fall to around 19C inland, 22C along the coast and 18C in the higher mountains.
Thunderstorms and possible hail on Thursday
The Cyprus weather will become more unsettled on Thursday, with partly cloudy conditions followed by isolated rain and thunderstorms during the afternoon, mainly over the mountains and inland areas.
Hail is also possible during thunderstorms.
Local rain and possible isolated thunderstorms are expected at intervals during the evening, particularly across the western half of the island. Light dust may also be suspended in the atmosphere.
Rain continues into Friday
Friday will be partly cloudy and locally mostly cloudy, with periods of local rain and isolated thunderstorms.
On Saturday, locally increased cloud is expected to produce isolated showers around midday and early afternoon, mainly over the mountains, while an isolated thunderstorm cannot be ruled out.
Temperatures will fall noticeably through Friday, dropping below seasonal averages, before rising slightly on Saturday.
