A 28-year-old man was arrested after allegedly stealing a car in Chloraka and leading police on a pursuit that ended with a collision in Tremithousa.
The incident happened in Chloraka when the 30-year-old owner parked outside a car dealership office and met a friend for coffee.
The owner had left the keys in the ignition while sitting just a short distance from the vehicle. He suddenly saw an unknown man enter the car, start the engine and drive away.
The owner and the business owner followed the stolen vehicle in another car while notifying police.
Chase ends after collision
The pursuit continued towards Tremithousa, with the suspect allegedly making dangerous overtakes and running traffic lights.
The stolen vehicle eventually collided with another car and came to a stop.
A police patrol following the vehicle, assisted by members of the public who witnessed the incident, arrested the suspect.
Police identified him as a 28-year-old Cypriot man who was already known to authorities in connection with similar offences.
The case was registered on Tuesday for trial before the Paphos District Court.
