President of the Republic Nikos Christodoulides has extended his wishes to students, university students and educators for a creative and successful school year as the new academic year begins.
In his message, the President described the start of each school and academic year as the beginning of a “beautiful journey” filled with knowledge, experiences, challenges and expectations.
He highlighted the opportunities it offers young people to shape the future they envision, urging students to make the most of their abilities, discover their interests and talents, and pursue knowledge with critical thinking and an open mind.
“Seize the opportunity and enjoy the unique journey,” he said.
Tribute to educators
Christodoulides also highlighted the important role of teachers, noting that students are not alone on this journey, with educators serving as guides and valuable companions.
He expressed his “sincere” gratitude to teachers for the demanding and deeply social work they carry out, stressing that the state recognises the importance of their contribution.
According to the President, educators play a crucial role in shaping the conscious citizens of tomorrow, while their dedication transforms classrooms into “living hubs of creativity, innovation and hope” for the future.
Focus on education reforms
The President also referred to the Government’s education policy, noting that the state is consistently investing in the ongoing improvement of the education system.
He said this year’s school year begins alongside further targeted institutional reforms across all levels of education, aimed at making the vision of a modern, people-centred and open school a reality.
Such a system, he said, should be capable of responding to the challenges of the times.
Reference to schools in the occupied areas
The Cyprus issue also featured prominently in Christodoulides’ message, with the President saying that the start of the new school year inevitably turns attention to the closed classrooms of schools in the occupied areas.
“In a country under occupation, education is the strongest beacon of hope,” he said, stressing that education serves as a daily reminder of the duty to strive for the liberation and reunification of Cyprus.
According to the President, the goal is to hand the next generation a free and reunified homeland where all its legal residents can live, work and create in conditions of peace, security and prosperity, “just as happens in all Member States of the European Union”.
Christodoulides concluded by wishing students, university students and educators “a good start, strength and every success” in achieving their goals.
