Couple turns school office into overnight “hotel”

Date:

A couple reportedly found an unusual way to secure free accommodation by staying inside a secondary school in Nicosia while schools remained closed for the summer.

The pair, who have not yet been located by the authorities, allegedly entered and left the school morning and evening after forcing open a window at the office of the school’s counselling teacher.

A mattress was found inside the room, although it remains unclear how long the couple had been staying there.

Alarm system disabled

According to information, the couple went unnoticed because they had allegedly damaged the school’s alarm system by burning through its cable.

As a result, the alarm did not sound and no relevant service was alerted.

The couple were eventually discovered by chance after they reportedly woke up late one morning and had not left the premises before the cleaning staff arrived.

When the staff opened the office, they found the makeshift living space the pair had created.

Couple fled after police were called

The staff who discovered the couple contacted police. The woman reportedly threatened that, if the authorities were informed, they would return to the school at night and destroy it.

Fearing arrest, the couple fled the premises, taking a computer monitor with them.

According to the same information, no other damage or thefts were reported at the school, apart from the computer monitor and the damaged alarm-system cable.

Different nationalities

The nationalities of the two individuals are different.

Information about their nationalities was provided by members of the school staff who discovered them and briefly spoke with the couple.
