President Nikos Christodoulides and Turkish Cypriot leader Tufan Erhurman are meeting on Wednesday afternoon, their first talks since UN Secretary-General António Guterres visited Cyprus.
The meeting is scheduled for 4pm at the offices of the UN Good Offices Mission in the Nicosia buffer zone, near the former airport.
First meeting since Guterres visit
It will be the first meeting between the two leaders since Guterres visited Cyprus in late July.
During his visit, the UN Secretary-General announced his intention to convene an expanded meeting on the Cyprus issue, provided sufficient preparations are made on confidence-building measures, methodology and the substantive issues to be discussed.
Guterres did not set a specific date for the proposed meeting.
Negotiators held preparatory meeting
The negotiators for the two sides, Menelaos Menelaou and Mehmet Dana, met last week to prepare for Wednesday’s meeting between Christodoulides and Erhurman.
