17-year-old Cypriot beaten in Crete after dancing with a girl

Date:

A 17-year-old Cypriot tourist was taken to hospital after being attacked during a festival in the Sitia area of Crete, where he was on holiday.

Two Albanian minors, aged 16 and 17, were arrested in connection with the incident.

Attack followed a dance

According to patris.gr, the incident took place on Saturday night while a festival was under way in the area.

Police sources said there had been no serious incident between those involved before the confrontation. The 17-year-old is reportedly said to have danced a sousta with a girl, which allegedly provoked a reaction from the two other minors.

The situation then escalated into a fight, during which the two minors allegedly attacked the Cypriot teenager.

He was injured and taken to hospital, where he received first aid. Doctors later determined that he did not need to remain in hospital and he was discharged.

Different accounts of the incident

The two arrested minors reportedly gave different accounts of their involvement.

One allegedly admitted hitting the 17-year-old, while the other claimed he intervened in the fight to separate those involved.

Despite their differing accounts, both minors were arrested by police investigating the case.
