74-year-old man in critical condition with West Nile virus

A 74-year-old man diagnosed with symptoms of West Nile virus remains in critical condition at Nicosia General Hospital.

Speaking to CyBC, OKYPY spokesperson Charalambos Charilaou said the patient has no travel history and has been on a ventilator since August 14.

Despite the seriousness of his condition, the patient’s clinical picture has shown signs of improvement.

Two dengue cases reported

Regarding two cases of dengue fever, Charilaou said the first involved a woman with a history of travel.

During her examination at the hospital, a healthcare professional came into contact with her blood and was subsequently also diagnosed with the virus.

Both patients have recovered, are in good health and have been discharged from the hospital.
