Rainfall brings rivers back to life across Cyprus

Date:

Heavy rain in Cyprus caused rivers to swell in several parts of the island on Tuesday, August 18, as intense weather conditions brought large amounts of rainfall.

According to the former Director of the Department of Meteorology, the rainfall was localised, with significant amounts recorded over specific areas.

He explained that the downpours were caused by thermal instability.

Flashing rivers filmed by residents

The fast-flowing river waters were captured by numerous residents as the intense rainfall swept through affected areas.

Heavy rainfall in August is relatively unusual in Cyprus, making the scenes particularly striking for those who witnessed them.
