Cyprus-France relations reach unprecedented level

Date:

The relations between Cyprus and France have reached their highest level ever, according to the Presidency of the Republic, which says the longstanding ties between the two countries have now developed into a “strategic partnership” with concrete policies and tangible results.

Strategic cooperation across key sectors

In a post on X, the Presidency said cooperation between Cyprus and France is “multifaceted and multi-level” and continues to evolve.

The relations focus on several key areas, including defence and security, energy, connectivity, education and culture.

The two countries also share “a common approach to Europe’s role in the world and the need to strengthen its strategic autonomy”, the Presidency said.

Longstanding ties with tangible results

The Presidency stressed that the longstanding friendship and cooperation between Cyprus and France “has been demonstrated in practice”, benefiting Cyprus and France, the European Union and the wider region.

The post was accompanied by a video featuring meetings between President Nikos Christodoulides and French President Emmanuel Macron in Cyprus in June and in Paris in December 2025.
