Cyprus Police recorded 1,457 speeding offences during a pan-European ROADPOL road safety campaign carried out across Cyprus from 3 to 9 August.
The campaign aimed to prevent road crashes and tackle dangerous and excessive speeding, with intensive checks conducted across the island’s road network.
Hundreds of serious traffic offences
Alongside speeding violations, police identified and reported hundreds of other serious offences that directly affect road safety.
During the campaign, authorities recorded:
- 1,457 drivers for excessive speeding
- 79 drivers for driving under the influence of alcohol
- 166 drivers for using a mobile phone while driving without hands-free equipment
- 165 people for failing to wear a seat belt
- 79 motorcycle passengers for failing to wear a protective helmet
The campaign formed part of ROADPOL’s Europe-wide efforts to address dangerous driving and reduce road collisions.

Cyprus Police said tackling serious traffic offences remains a key priority.
Traffic checks are continuing daily across the road network, with authorities aiming to prevent road crashes, strengthen road safety and protect all road users.
