Larnaca: Well-known businessman arrested over fraud

A 62-year-old businessman from Larnaca has been arrested by the Larnaca Criminal Investigation Department (TAE) as part of an investigation into a serious case involving alleged fraud, forgery, fraudulent property transactions and money laundering.

The offences under investigation are believed to have taken place between 2022 and 2024.

The suspect is expected to appear before the Larnaca District Court on Wednesday, where police will request a detention order.

Ten offences under investigation

Larnaca TAE chief Giorgos Charalambous said the suspect, a Greek Cypriot businessman and Larnaca resident, was arrested in connection with ten offences allegedly committed during the period 2022–2024.

The offences being investigated include:

  • Conspiracy to commit a felony.
  • Obtaining money through false representations.
  • Preparation of documents without authority.
  • Forgery and circulation of forged documents.
  • Fraudulent transactions involving property belonging to another person.
  • Fraud in the sale of property.
  • False accounts by a company director with intent to defraud.
  • Defrauding creditors.
  • Money laundering from illegal activities.

Investigation continues

Police are continuing their investigation into the case, while further details are expected to emerge following the suspect’s appearance before the Larnaca District Court.
