US destroyer USS Arleigh Burke docks in Limassol

Date:

The guided-missile destroyer USS Arleigh Burke (DDG-51) of the United States Navy arrived at Limassol port yesterday following several months of operations at sea aimed at supporting US and Cyprus security efforts.

According to an official statement by the US Embassy in Cyprus, the vessel’s arrival coincides with celebrations marking the 250th anniversary of American Independence.

US-Cyprus security cooperation highlighted

The embassy expressed gratitude for Cyprus’ hospitality and cooperation, underlining the close security partnership between the two countries and the vessel’s participation in celebrations linked to the founding of the US Navy.

The USS visit to Limassol also highlights continued defence cooperation between Cyprus and the United States, reflecting ongoing strategic ties in the Eastern Mediterranean.

Part of the US Sixth Fleet

The USS Arleigh Burke, the first vessel of its class, serves under the United States Sixth Fleet and is permanently stationed in Rota, Spain.

The vessel measures approximately 154 metres in length and features advanced Aegis combat systems. Around 300 sailors serve onboard.

Images released by the US Embassy show the grey warship docked at Limassol port under clear skies, with crew members standing on deck and the American flag flying at the stern.

The photographs also show a tugboat bearing the name “P&O Troodos” alongside port personnel.

Regular naval visits continue

The port call forms part of routine visits by US naval vessels to Cyprus, which continue to strengthen bilateral relations and maritime cooperation across the Eastern Mediterranean.
