Macron’s address tonight, after the fall of Barnier’s government

Date:

President Emmanuel Macron will address the French nation tonight at 9 PM (Greek time), the Élysée Palace announced on Wednesday evening. The announcement comes in the wake of the National Assembly vote that led to the collapse of Michel Barnier’s government.

Following this development, Marine Le Pen, head of the far-right National Rally parliamentary group, called on the French president on Tuesday to take responsibility. However, she stopped short of explicitly demanding his resignation. Instead, she stated that she intends to allow the new prime minister to work towards achieving a state budget acceptable to all.

In contrast, Jean-Luc Mélenchon, leader of the left-wing France Unbowed party, called for Emmanuel Macron’s resignation, stating: “Even if he appoints a Michel Barnier every three months as prime minister, he will not manage to stay as President of the Republic for the next three years.”

Meanwhile, Socialist Party Secretary Olivier Faure did not call for Macron’s resignation. Instead, he urged the president to listen to the French people and appoint a prime minister from the left-wing political spectrum.
