Date:

Court appearance scheduled

The father and stepmother arrested following the Xylofagou tragedy are due to appear before court today as investigations into the deaths of two young boys continue.

According to the British Bases Police, the pair are scheduled to appear in court at 11:00 and remain in custody on suspicion of negligence.

Children were visiting Cyprus

According to Xylofagou Community Council President Giorgos Ioulianos, the two boys, who were of Bulgarian origin, had travelled to Cyprus to spend their holidays with their father, who lives and works on the island.

Based on the information available so far, the father and stepmother left for work early in the morning. The children are believed to have entered a parked vehicle and, under circumstances still under investigation, became trapped inside.

They were later found unconscious.

Investigations continue

Burn injuries were found on the bodies of the two children. The exact cause of death is expected to be determined during post-mortem examinations.

The British Bases Police are continuing their investigation and are examining all possible circumstances that led to the tragedy.

Sigma correspondent Paraskevi Paskoui reported that the children had been staying in Cyprus with their father during their summer holidays.

She said the father had left home early for work, while his partner was also reportedly absent from the house. The children were pronounced dead when an ambulance arrived at the scene.
