UN Cyprus issue reports due in early July

Date:

The reports of UN Secretary-General António Guterres on his Good Offices regarding the Cyprus issue and on UNFICYP are expected to be submitted in early July 2026, ahead of closed consultations of the UN Security Council scheduled for the afternoon of 16 July.

According to information reported by the Cyprus News Agency (CNA), the discussions will form part of a wider month-long agenda for the Council.

Briefings ahead of key deliberations

In the meantime, the UN Secretary-General’s Special Representative, Kacou Houadja Léon Adom (Khassim Diagne as referenced in reports), is expected to brief Security Council members during consultations on UNFICYP.

The focus of the discussions will be the Secretary-General’s report on Cyprus, which will guide further deliberations on the mandate and developments on the island.

Broader Security Council agenda

The Cyprus issue will be examined within an extensive programme of Security Council work throughout the month, which also includes meetings on Sudan, the Women, Peace and Security agenda, UNOWAS, Colombia, Haiti, the Middle East, Syria, and UNRCCA, among other global matters.

The scheduling highlights the continued international attention on the Cyprus file within the UN framework, alongside multiple active conflict and peacekeeping dossiers.
