Francis Ford Coppola to direct “1930s-style” musical

Date:

Francis Ford Coppola is reportedly planning for his next film to be a “quirky 1930s-style” musical.

The veteran director, renowned for films such as The Godfather and Apocalypse Now, recently directed Megalopolis, a passion project he self-financed. However, the film received negative reviews and turned out to be a box office failure.

Undeterred, Coppola is already focused on his next major cinematic endeavor. In an interview with The Washington Post, he revealed that he plans to begin production on his new film, Glimpses Of The Moon, in London next year.

Describing the film as “a strange 1930s-style musical” and “a very quirky invention” with “strong dance and musical elements,” Coppola noted that this time he has financed the project “in a conventional way, with the help of national funding, as I’ve taken out loans.”

“It will not be cheap by any means,” he added, but clarified that, unlike Megalopolis, it will not be an “epic.”

The film Glimpses Of The Moon will be an adaptation of Edith Wharton’s novel of the same name. It will incorporate elements from the 1937 comedy The Awful Truth, with both plots revolving around a married couple who separate but later regret their decision.
