Limassol is preparing to activate its smart parking system within the first days of July, according to reports, as installation works continue across the city centre. The smart parking project aims to modernise parking management and improve convenience for residents and visitors.
The system was first announced by Limassol Municipality in 2023, with the contract signed in June 2025 with Blue Sun Automation Ltd, valued at €5,172,000 plus VAT.
Coverage and infrastructure upgrade
The smart parking network will cover approximately 2,500 parking spaces in central Limassol. Sensors have already been installed in several on-street parking areas, allowing real-time detection of available spaces.
Drivers will be able to use a mobile application to check parking availability instantly, reducing congestion and time spent searching for parking. The smart parking system will also allow electronic payments, streamlining the user experience.
In organised car parks, barriers will be installed to ensure controlled access and better management of spaces.
Major changes at key parking sites
At the “Enaerios” parking area, significant changes are planned regarding entry and exit flow, along with a redesign of the space to improve capacity and comfort. Similar works are expected to follow at the Limassol pier parking facilities.
These upgrades form part of the broader smart parking rollout strategy aimed at improving functionality across high-traffic areas.
Pricing framework still under discussion
Authorities have not yet finalised pricing for the smart parking system. The issue is expected to be discussed in the municipal council’s management committee in the coming period.
Preliminary discussions suggest a possible rate of €1 per hour, with a daily cap of €15 for all users. Safeguards are also expected to prevent misuse of the system.
Decisions are also pending regarding possible concessions for permanent residents, although officials stress that long-term occupation of public parking spaces is not desired.
Traffic management and enforcement benefits
The smart parking system is designed to improve commercial activity in the city centre by increasing parking turnover and accessibility.
At the same time, it will support traffic wardens by providing real-time monitoring of parking violations, allowing faster intervention and better enforcement of regulations.
The introduction of smart parking is expected to reduce congestion and improve overall urban mobility in Limassol.
