Limassol: 70 cats vanish without a trace within months

Date:

A wave of unexplained cat disappearances has caused alarm in the community of Episkopi, with residents reporting that around 70 cats have gone missing over the past several months.

According to local residents and animal welfare volunteers, the animals vanished gradually since last December without leaving any trace.

Most of the missing cats were sterilised, regularly fed and well known within the community.

No signs of injured or dead animals

Residents say the most troubling aspect of the case is that no injured or dead animals have been found despite repeated searches.

One local resident said the cats have simply “disappeared without a trace”, with no evidence of road accidents or other incidents that could explain their sudden absence.

The lack of physical evidence has deepened concern and mystery surrounding the cat disappearances.

Police informed as investigation continues

The issue has been repeatedly reported to the authorities, with residents filing complaints to police requesting an investigation.

However, so far no clear evidence has emerged to explain what happened to the animals or identify any possible suspects.

Authorities have not publicly commented on the case.

Community alarm and concern over possible foul play

The situation has caused widespread distress among residents, many of whom had developed strong bonds with the cats in the area.

Some locals have raised concerns that the cat disappearances could be linked to deliberate or illegal actions against the animals, although this has not been confirmed.

Calls for increased investigation

Residents are urging authorities to intensify investigations and are appealing for anyone with information or suspicious observations in the area to come forward.

They stress the need for answers to a case that continues to unsettle the local community and raise serious concerns about animal welfare.
