President Nikos Christodoulides said the government will do “whatever is necessary” to ensure a full investigation into the case linked to the findings of the Independent Authority Against Corruption.
Speaking to journalists on the sidelines of an inauguration event in Analiontas, the President referred to previous official statements and said authorities are awaiting the next procedural steps.
Awaiting Law Office decisions
Christodoulides said the report is expected to be formally submitted to the Law Office for examination before further decisions are announced.
“What I want to repeat is that institutionally and under the relevant legislation, we are awaiting the report to be delivered to the Law Office, examined and followed by announcements on the next decisions,” he said.
He added that the executive branch would act based on any announcements made by the Law Office.
Commitment to transparency
The President also stressed that the government remains fully committed to transparency, accountability and strengthening public trust in institutions.
“As the executive branch, we will do whatever is necessary after the relevant announcements by the Law Office, institutionally and as required by the relevant legislation,” he said.
Questioned on calls by former President Nicos Anastasiades and author Makarios Drousiotis for the Attorney General and Assistant Attorney General to be excluded from reviewing the case, Christodoulides again said the government was waiting for the Law Office’s decisions.
He concluded by saying the government would take all necessary action within the framework of the Constitution and relevant legislation to ensure a full investigation.
