The closure of parking spaces at the General Hospital of Limassol has sparked reactions, following complaints that disabled parking areas were affected and patients are being forced to park further away.
According to a complaint submitted to SigmaLive, parking spaces designated for people with disabilities have been temporarily closed.
This has reportedly caused difficulties for disabled individuals visiting the hospital, as they are now required to park at a greater distance from the facility.
Hospital authority explains construction works
Speaking to SigmaLive, OKYPY spokesperson Charalambos Charilaou said the temporary closure is linked to ongoing development works at the hospital site.
He explained that concrete mixer trucks are currently operating in the area as part of construction work for the building’s floor slab.
Safety measures in place
Charilaou noted that the measures taken were necessary for safety reasons due to the nature of the works.
He added that the restrictions on parking will remain in place until next Thursday, when the construction phase is expected to be completed.
Temporary disruption expected to end
Authorities have stressed that the changes are temporary and directly connected to the hospital’s upgrading works.
The situation is expected to return to normal once the construction activity in the affected area is completed.
