The upcoming European Parliament plenary in Strasbourg, taking place from 15 to 18 June, will focus on a broad set of political, economic and security issues affecting the European Union and its global partnerships.
MEPs will discuss EU trade commitments, ongoing crises in the Middle East, EU enlargement progress reports, and the bloc’s relations with key international partners.
EU trade commitments and global tensions
On Tuesday, Members of the European Parliament are expected to give final approval to two legislative acts implementing the EU’s tariff commitments under the EU–US Joint Declaration of August 2025, also known as the “Turnberry agreement”.
Lawmakers will also debate the EU’s role in responding to ongoing crises in the Middle East during a discussion with EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas.
Enlargement and regional stability
The Parliament will examine annual progress reports on EU accession for Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Georgia, Kosovo, North Macedonia, Montenegro, and Turkey.
MEPs are expected to vote on these reports on Wednesday, assessing the reform progress of candidate and potential candidate countries.
Security concerns and external threats
On the same day, the European Commission will address Russian activities, including reported drone incursions into Romania, the Baltic states, and Finland, as part of broader security concerns along the EU’s eastern border.
EU-China relations and upcoming summit
MEPs will also discuss expectations for the upcoming European Council meeting on 18–19 June, as well as the future of EU–China economic relations, in talks involving the European Commission and the Council Presidency.
Migration policy and child protection online
Another key vote will focus on reforming the EU return policy to ensure that individuals without the right to stay in the bloc are returned once ordered to leave.
Separately, lawmakers will explore measures to strengthen child protection and mental health safeguards related to social media use.
Cultural cooperation initiative
On Thursday, the final day of the plenary, MEPs will debate a European Commission statement and a joint declaration titled “Culture for Europe – Europe for Culture”, focusing on cultural policy across the EU.
