Call for repatriation of the body of Michalis, brutally murdered in the UK

Date:

The family of 60-year-old Cypriot Michalis Kyriakou, who was killed following a violent attack in London, has launched an appeal for financial support to bring his body back to Cyprus for burial.

Through a GoFundMe campaign, the victim’s brother, Miltos Kyriakou, is asking for assistance from the public to cover the costs associated with the repatriation and funeral arrangements linked to the case.

Victim sustained fatal injuries in May attack

According to the campaign message, Michalis Kyriakou was violently assaulted on 14 May 2026 in London and succumbed to his injuries on 22 May, despite medical efforts to save his life.

He had been living in the British capital for the past two years, attempting to build a new life while maintaining strong ties with Cyprus.

Life and background in Cyprus and abroad

The family highlighted his connection to Agia Napa, where he was known as the owner of the area’s first tattoo studio.

They described him as a creative and well-known figure in the local community, whose personality and artistic work left a strong impression on many people.

Kyriakou had also faced significant personal challenges in the past, having lost one of his arms following a previous injury.

Investigation ongoing in the UK

The case remains under investigation by UK authorities. The Metropolitan Police launched a murder inquiry after Kyriakou was found seriously injured on Chippenham Road in Maida Vale during the early hours of 14 May.

Police officers provided first aid at the scene before he was transported to the hospital, where he died eight days later due to the severity of his injuries.

A 36-year-old man, identified as Biniam Tewolde Negash, who is believed to have known the victim, was initially arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and remanded in custody. Following Kyriakou’s death, the case has been upgraded to homicide.

Detective Inspector Brian Howie expressed condolences to the family and confirmed that investigators are working to establish the exact circumstances surrounding the attack.

Family appeal for public support

The family has emphasised the financial burden of repatriating the body from the United Kingdom, while also expressing the wish of the victim’s elderly mother to have her son laid to rest in Cyprus.

They are calling on the public to contribute any amount possible, stating that even small donations would help fulfil his final wish to return home.
