Three threatening messages sent, Arnaoutis contacts Annita Demetriou

Police are investigating a case involving threatening emails linked to the security of House Speaker and Democratic Rally (DISY) leader Annita Demetriou.

The matter has been reported to the relevant authorities, with Cyprus Police confirming to CNA that a complaint has been received and that investigations are ongoing.

Investigation at an early stage

According to the police, the investigation remains at an early stage, and no details are being released regarding the content of the threats for operational reasons.

The case concerns three threatening emails that were sent and are related to the safety of Demetriou.

Security measures under review

When asked whether additional security measures had been put in place for the House Speaker, the police declined to comment, stating that the issue is being handled by the competent services while investigations continue.

In a statement, the police said they are treating the reported threats with the utmost seriousness and remain in constant communication with the relevant security officials.

Authorities added that all necessary and appropriate measures are being taken.

Police chief contacted House Speaker

Police Chief Themistos Arnaoutis spoke by telephone with Demetriou on Thursday evening.

According to the statement, the conversation focused on the reported threats as well as issues relating to the handling of information surrounding the case.

“For the protection of the investigation, it is not possible to provide further details at this stage,” Police said.

Authorities stress seriousness of threats

Police reiterated that every complaint involving threats against any individual is assessed immediately and investigated with the seriousness required by the circumstances.

Investigations into the origin and nature of the threatening emails remain ongoing.
