The Cyprus Consumers’ Association has identified increases in a range of everyday products during the second half of May, highlighting continued volatility in Cyprus product prices.
According to the findings, the largest increases reached up to 9.8% and affected categories such as sauces and dressings, eggs, soap, cheese, yoghurt, tissues and personal hygiene products.
165 price changes recorded
The association reported a total of 165 price changes across 34 product categories during the second half of May.
Among the most notable increases were:
- Mayonnaise packaging: +34 cents (9.8%)
- 12-pack eggs: +29 cents (7.4%)
- Baby milk: +45 cents (2.5%)
Although baby milk showed the largest absolute increase, the percentage change was lower compared to other items.
Price decreases also observed
During the same period, 133 products recorded price reductions, with an average decrease of 9.4%.
The data suggests continued fluctuations in product prices in Cyprus, with both upward and downward movements recorded within a short timeframe.
Data sources and methodology
The analysis is based on price data from the government’s e-kalathi platform, as well as the private “smart kalathi” application.
Price comparisons were made using average daily values, comparing each product with its previous day’s average price.
Calls for further investigation
The Consumers’ Association noted that some products experienced price increases followed shortly by decreases, raising questions about market behaviour.
It called for a deeper investigation into the reasons behind these fluctuations, stressing that broader market conditions appear largely similar across affected categories.
Ongoing monitoring of market trends
The association said it will continue to monitor product prices in Cyprus and publish findings with transparency, particularly for essential goods used by households.
The aim, it added, is to improve understanding of price movements and ensure greater clarity for consumers.
