The so-called “infectious diseases committee” of the “ministry of health” in the occupied north of Cyprus has announced precautionary measures following concerns over the Ebola virus, according to reports.
The measures come amid monitoring of international health developments and potential public health risks.
Laboratory coordination with Turkey
According to the announcement, any samples collected for the diagnosis of suspected cases will be sent to the National Public Health Reference Laboratory of Turkey’s Ministry of Health.
In addition, the “pharmaceutical department” has been instructed to begin procedures to secure medicines used in the treatment of Ebola virus disease.
Nature of the virus and public health monitoring
The statement also notes that Ebola is a rare but severe viral infection that can be transmitted through contact with infected bodily fluids from humans or animals.
Health “authorities” said they will continue to monitor updates from international health organisations and adjust measures if necessary.
Ongoing surveillance and preparedness
The “committee” added that it will closely follow guidance from global health bodies and implement additional measures should the situation require it.
The announcement forms part of broader preparedness efforts aimed at responding to potential infectious disease threats.
