Israeli navy operation reported in international waters
The Global Sumud Flotilla came under interception by the Israeli navy of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) on Monday, according to organisers of the mission.
The vessels were reportedly stopped in international waters near Cyprus while heading towards Gaza, with the aim of challenging the naval blockade and highlighting the humanitarian situation in the enclave.
Live broadcasts from activists showed Israeli soldiers boarding several of the vessels before communications were cut.
Dozens of vessels involved
According to available reports, at least 36 boats were intercepted approximately 167 kilometres from the Cypriot coast.
The organisers, however, claim the operation took place around 463 kilometres from Gaza, presenting a different account of the location of the incident.
The flotilla’s official tracking data also indicated that one vessel, named Sabra, appeared to have reached Paphos port in Cyprus, where it reportedly sought shelter.

Arrests reported among activists
Social media posts on X suggest that several individuals on board the flotilla have been detained.
Among those reportedly arrested is the sister of the President of Ireland, according to posts circulating online. These claims have not yet been independently verified by official sources.
