Call for collective effort to make mental health a priority

Date:

The European Mental Health Week 2026 is being marked with renewed calls for cooperation and collective action, as organisations across Europe stress the importance of prioritising mental health in a rapidly changing society.

The Cyprus Mental Health Protection Association has joined partners and communities across the continent in highlighting the need for solidarity and shared responsibility.

“Stronger together” message across Europe

Under the theme “Stronger Together: Prioritising Mental Health in a Changing Europe”, the European Mental Health Week runs from 4 to 8 May 2026.

The initiative highlights the growing pressures affecting mental health, including digital transformation, widening social and economic inequalities, and increased stress levels among young people.

It also draws attention to unequal access to mental health services across Europe.

The Association emphasised that cooperation between individuals, organisations, state authorities and communities is essential to build a fair and supportive environment for people facing mental health challenges.

According to the association, collective action remains the foundation for ensuring equal opportunities for wellbeing.

Rising pressures on mental health services

The organisation noted that modern societies are facing a complex environment shaped by rapid technological change and social strain.

These conditions, it said, make initiatives such as European Mental Health Week more important than ever.

“Action is a necessity, not an option”

Association’s President Myria Antoniadou stressed that collaboration is no longer optional but necessary.

“In a time like the present, joint action is not just a choice; it is a necessity, which we as an association strive to put into practice,” she said.
