Livestock farmers warn of mobilizations: Deadline to the President until Monday

Date:

Stavros Malas, Head of the Special Scientific Committee for the Reconstruction and Upgrading of the Livestock Sector and President of the Cyprus Institute, met on Saturday with a three-member delegation from the newly established association “The Voice of Livestock Farmers.”

Speaking to the Cyprus News Agency, farmers’ representative Christodoulos Christodoulou reiterated their demand for a meeting with the President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulides, and warned of possible new mobilizations.

According to Mr. Christodoulou, Mr. Malas briefed the farmers on the progress of foot-and-mouth disease and the next steps.

On their part, the livestock farmers expressed their concerns, insisting on a meeting with the President.

“The Government is unacceptable. They are planning for tomorrow; they don’t care about today,” Mr. Christodoulou said.

“They assigned Mr. Malas to plan for the future. Today depends on the Veterinary Services, the President, and the Government,” he added.

“They have no solution, no plan. The President has a deadline until Monday afternoon,” he noted.

In closing, Mr. Christodoulou warned that if the President does not agree to meet with their association, the livestock farmers will proceed with new mobilizations.
