Newborn suffers burns after bath at Larnaca General Hospital

Authorities are investigating an incident after a mother filed a complaint alleging that her newborn sustained injuries following a bathing procedure at the General Hospital of Larnaca. The case has prompted a formal inquiry by the relevant services.

Allegation raised by mother

According to the complaint submitted to the police, the mother claims that shortly after giving birth, her baby was placed in hot water for bathing, resulting in burns on the infant’s legs.

The newborn was later transferred to Makarios Hospital for specialised care, where it is currently being treated.

The alleged incident has raised serious concerns regarding neonatal care procedures and hospital protocols.

Authorities launch investigation

The case is now under investigation by the competent authorities, who are examining the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Charalambos Charilaou, spokesperson for the State Health Services Organisation (OKYPY), confirmed that the matter is being investigated by the relevant departments.

The report remains at an early stage, with officials gathering statements and medical evidence as part of the inquiry.

Hospital response and next steps

Health authorities have not yet released further details, but internal procedures are expected to be reviewed as part of the investigation.

The outcome of the inquiry will determine whether any negligence occurred and whether additional measures are required to prevent similar incidents.
