Larnaca marina protest set for April 29

Date:

Mass mobilisation announced by mayor

A Larnaca marina protest has been scheduled for Wednesday, April 29 at 6pm outside the city’s port, as residents demand progress on long-delayed development plans.

Mayor Andreas Vyras said the mobilisation aims to send a clear message about the future of the port, marina and surrounding land development.

Frustration over delays grows

The announcement follows an emergency meeting of the Larnaca City and District Development Committee on April 17, where officials reviewed the stalled progress of what has been described as a project of “utmost importance” for the city and wider district.

Vyras noted that two years have passed since the termination of the contract with Kition, with no substantial progress made, leaving no room for further delays.

Government commitments under scrutiny

During a recent meeting initiated by Transport Minister Alexis Vafeades, commitments were made regarding the project’s next steps.

According to the mayor, a study is expected by early May outlining land allocation for development within the port area. Within one to two months, a preliminary master plan is also expected, including estimated costs, funding structure involving the Cyprus Ports Authority, and implementation timelines.

United front from local authorities

Local stakeholders have pledged to remain united in pushing for the project’s advancement. A press conference is also planned ahead of the minister’s visit to inform citizens on developments.

The planned Larnaca marina protest is intended as a show of unity and determination, with organisers stressing that the city will not accept further delays or uncertainty.
