Ukrainian strikes hit chemical plant in northern Russia

Long-range drones target industrial facility

A Ukrainian drone strike operation targeted a chemical plant in northern Russia, shortly after a 32-hour Orthodox Easter ceasefire ended, according to Ukrainian military sources.

The strike was reportedly carried out by long-range unmanned aerial vehicles belonging to Ukraine’s armed forces, which hit an ammonia production facility in the city of Cherepovets.

Strategic chemical plant targeted

The facility produces large quantities of ammonia, ammonium nitrate and nitric acid annually. These materials are widely used in agriculture but can also be used in the production of explosives.

Ukrainian drone forces commander Robert Brovdi said the site was deliberately targeted following the end of the temporary ceasefire.

The plant is located around 400 kilometres north of Moscow and approximately 900 kilometres from the Russia–Ukraine border.

Russian officials confirm strike

Cherepovets mayor Andrey Nastrasev confirmed that an industrial facility was hit in the attack.

He said there was no threat to the city’s population, according to Russian state media reports.

Ceasefire ends amid renewed hostilities

The strike came after a brief Easter ceasefire lasting 32 hours, which both sides accused each other of violating or failing to fully observe.

Ukraine stated the operation targeted infrastructure linked to materials used in explosives production, while Russia has not reported any major damage or casualties.

Wider escalation concerns

Cherepovets is a major industrial centre, and the targeted plant is considered significant due to its production of key chemical inputs.

The incident highlights continued escalation in the conflict, with both sides maintaining long-range strike capabilities deep into each other’s territory.
