Weak local demand during holidays
Cyprus hotel occupancy remained relatively low during the Easter period, ranging between 25% and 45%, according to PASYXE (Cyprus Hotel Association) Director General Christos Angelides.
Speaking to CNA, Angelides said hotel activity was limited, particularly in the local market. He noted that Easter is not traditionally a strong period for domestic hotel stays, as Cypriots tend to travel abroad or gather with family instead.
“The weighted average occupancy ranged between 25% and 45%,” he said, adding that this year’s figures were slightly lower than usual for the season.
Hotels reopen for tourist season
Despite the subdued Easter performance, most hotels have already reopened for the new tourist season, with full operation expected across the sector by 20 April.
Summer bookings remain unchanged
Looking ahead, hotel occupancy in Cyprus for the summer season shows little improvement compared to five weeks ago.
Angelides said cancellations are continuing, while the pace of new bookings is not sufficient to reverse the trend.
“The situation remains largely unchanged, with cancellations ongoing and bookings not improving enough to offset them,” he noted.
No clear signs of recovery
A slight improvement has been observed in cancellation levels, but without the anticipated increase in new reservations.
“The picture appears somewhat different, but without clear signs of recovery,” Angelides said.
He added that although Cyprus is not directly at the centre of geopolitical developments, it continues to be affected by the broader situation.
“We have not fully managed to shake off this image,” he said.
Push to boost Cyprus tourism image
Hotels are continuing promotional efforts through digital campaigns and outreach in key international markets, including travel by sales teams abroad.
Angelides stressed that sustained efforts are needed to promote Cyprus as a safe and welcoming destination, in order to strengthen its international image and support recovery in hotel occupancy.
