At Larnaca Airport, Easter lingers in the air before departure!

Just beyond duty-free, departing passengers encounter flaounes and red Easter eggs in a final, almost dreamlike meeting with Cyprus before boarding.

There is a peculiar hour inside every airport, even in the middle of the day, when movement begins to feel suspended. Wheels pass over polished floors, announcements dissolve into the air, faces turn toward departure boards, and everything seems to exist in that strange interval between leaving and not yet having left. At Larnaca Airport, this Easter, that in-between space is taking on a distinctly Cypriot form.

Flaounes and red Easter eggs are now available airside, just after the duty-free section in departures, offering passengers one final encounter with two of the island’s most recognisable Easter traditions before boarding.

It is, on the face of it, a simple addition to the departures area. Yet there is something almost surreal in the image itself: beyond the perfumes, beyond the bright retail light and the restless choreography of transit, the traveller suddenly meets the deep grammar of Easter in Cyprus, golden pastry, red shells, the warmth of memory disguised as food.

The flaouna has long belonged to the emotional landscape of Holy Week. Made with cheese, eggs, mint and, in many versions, raisins, it is more than a seasonal pastry. It carries with it the rhythm of preparation, the labour of kitchens, the anticipation of Pascha, the sense that celebration is something kneaded, folded, baked and shared. Its presence at the airport relocates that world, briefly, into the architecture of departure.

And then there is the aroma of freshly baked flaounes, warm, rich, and quietly enveloping, moving through the terminal like a soft disruption. For a moment, the airport ceases to feel like an anonymous corridor of transit. It becomes intimate, almost domestic, as though some hidden Easter courtyard had opened between the gates.

The red Easter egg, too, arrives with its own symbolic intensity. In Cypriot tradition, it is inseparable from Pascha: vivid, ceremonial, familiar. Against the metallic tones and neutral surfaces of the airport, that red appears almost luminous, like a seasonal pulse still beating at the threshold of departure.

The initiative is addressed to all passengers passing through Larnaca Airport during the Easter period, visitors preparing to leave the island, Cypriots travelling abroad, and anyone who finds themselves wanting, at the last moment, to carry something of the season with them.

What is offered, then, is not merely a purchase before boarding. It is a final sensation of Cyprus before take-off. A last edible fragment of Easter. A fleeting but unmistakable reminder that even in places built for movement, tradition can still appear suddenly, like a vision, and linger in the air.
