Low-pressure system affects Cyprus
The ERMINIO system is currently affecting Cyprus, bringing unsettled conditions, though improvement is expected by midday.
According to the Department of Meteorology, dust will remain suspended in the atmosphere, with concentrations at times expected to be elevated.
Rain and storms early, improvement later
Today’s weather will initially be cloudy, with localised rain and possible isolated thunderstorms. Gradually, conditions are expected to improve significantly by midday, although isolated showers may persist, mainly in the eastern half of the island.
Winds will initially blow mainly from the southeast to south, weak to moderate at 3 to 4 Beaufort, and locally moderate to strong at 4 to 5 Beaufort. They will soon shift from southwest to northwest directions.
The sea will be generally rough. Temperatures will rise to around 21°C inland, as well as in the west and north coasts, around 23°C on the south and east coasts, and about 14°C in higher mountainous areas.
Dust and clouds overnight
Tonight, intervals of increased cloud cover are expected. Winds will be mainly southerly to southwesterly, weak and occasionally locally moderate at 3 to 4 Beaufort.
The sea will be slightly to rough, while temperatures will drop to around 9°C inland, about 11°C along the coast, and near 5°C in the higher mountains.
Weekend outlook
ERMINIO will continue to influence Cyprus conditions on Friday and Saturday, with intervals of increased cloudiness expected to bring isolated showers or thunderstorms.
On Sunday, the weather will initially be partly cloudy before becoming mostly cloudy, with local rain and isolated storms likely.
Temperatures are expected to gradually decrease until Saturday, falling slightly below average seasonal levels, while no significant change is expected on Sunday.
