Engomi fatal crash: YKAN officer killed

A 28-year-old motorcyclist, Andreas Antoniou from Nicosia, lost his life in a fatal road collision that occurred at around 22:20 on Friday, when the motorcycle he was riding collided with a car driven by a 23-year-old woman.

The 28-year-old was a member of Cyprus’ anti-narcotics unit (YKAN).

According to Police, the accident happened under circumstances that are still under investigation on Griva Digeni Avenue in Engomi.

The motorcyclist, who was wearing a protective helmet, was transported by ambulance to Nicosia General Hospital, where the doctor on duty confirmed his death.

The driver of the car underwent both a breathalyzer and a drug test, which returned negative results. She was later arrested under a court warrant to assist with the investigation.

Nicosia Traffic Police continue to examine the circumstances of the crash and urge anyone with information to contact Nicosia Traffic Police, the Citizen Communication Line at 1460, or the nearest Police Station.
