Iran threatens to destroy Middle East water and energy sites

Date:

Iranian threats to infrastructure

Tehran has warned it will “irreversibly destroy” key infrastructure across the Middle East, including energy and water systems, if the US carries out threats to strike Iranian power plants. The escalation comes as Iranian missiles struck southern Israeli cities, injuring dozens.

Impact on civilians

The ongoing Iran-Israel conflict has caused widespread casualties, with at least 200 people wounded in missile attacks on Arad and Dimona, including children in serious condition. Air raid sirens and damage to civilian areas have heightened concerns over public safety.

Global energy and geopolitical effects

The Strait of Hormuz, a critical route for nearly a fifth of the world’s oil and liquefied natural gas, remains effectively closed due to Iranian restrictions. This has triggered the worst oil crisis since the 1970s, with European gas prices surging by up to 35%.

International reactions

Amnesty International has warned that attacks on essential services could violate international law and may constitute war crimes. Meanwhile, US and UK officials stress the urgency of reopening the strait and monitoring Iran’s missile capabilities. NATO has said it is assessing the situation, while global markets face heightened uncertainty.

Regional escalation

Iran fired long-range missiles toward the US-British military base at Diego Garcia for the first time, while Israel expanded attacks in southern Lebanon against Hezbollah. Civilian injuries and infrastructure damage continue across Israel, the West Bank, and Gulf states, with ongoing clashes threatening a broader regional escalation.
