President: €890,000 from businesses and citizens to support fire-affected communities

Date:

President Nikos Christodoulides announced that €890,000 donated by businesses and citizens following the devastating wildfires in July 2025 in the Limassol District will be allocated directly to the affected communities.

Speaking during a meeting with local authorities in Pachna, the President said the funds will be used for projects chosen by the communities themselves.

He said the government has implemented a comprehensive support plan worth about €60 million to address the consequences of the fires.

According to the Presidency, immediate support included €400,000 to cover urgent needs of community councils and €850,000 to strengthen the operational capacity of fire affected communities.

Christodoulides also said that €2.3 million was allocated to support around 300 families whose homes were destroyed or severely damaged, while compensation for property damage is estimated to reach €30 million after nearly 940 applications were assessed.

In the agricultural sector, about €3.3 million in compensation was paid to 1,435 farmers and livestock breeders who were affected by the fires.

The President expressed his sorrow for the loss of two people during the disaster, saying their memory is a reminder that behind every catastrophe there are families and communities facing hardship.

He thanked volunteers, businesses and local authorities for their solidarity and cooperation in the recovery effort.
