Drone attacks target Gulf oil and energy sites

Date:

Multiple drone attacks were reported across the Gulf on Thursday, targeting key energy infrastructure in Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Kuwait, and Bahrain, amid ongoing regional tensions linked to Iran.

Saudi Arabia intercepts drones at Shaybah oil field

The Saudi Ministry of Defense confirmed that it intercepted a drone heading toward the Shaybah oil field, marking the third such incident today. Earlier, another drone targeting the same field was also neutralised.

Explosions and power disruptions across the Gulf

In the UAE, AFP journalists reported explosions in central Dubai, one of which was particularly strong, with smoke rising above commercial areas. Meanwhile, Kuwait’s Ministry of Electricity confirmed that six power transmission lines were damaged by debris from intercepted drones, although electricity and water supply remain under control.

In Bahrain, eyewitnesses observed smoke rising near the country’s international airport. Authorities urged residents in several areas to stay indoors, close windows, and shut ventilation systems as a precaution against smoke from fires at fuel tanks reportedly targeted by Iran.

Regional tensions continue

These attacks are part of escalating retaliatory actions in the Gulf, following Israeli and American strikes against Iran. Governments in the affected countries are closely monitoring the situation to secure energy infrastructure and protect citizens.
