Two drones intercepted near Akrotiri British Bases

Date:

The Government Spokesperson, Konstantinos Letympiotis, confirmed that two unmanned aerial vehicles (drones) moving toward the British Bases at Akrotiri were intercepted in time on Monday at 13:10 local time.

Evacuations and emergency measures

Earlier around midday, sirens sounded in the Akrotiri area, with reports of military aircraft taking off. In coordination with government instructions, Paphos airport was evacuated as a precaution after information indicated a drone was heading toward the area.

Local authorities also ordered the evacuation of the Akrotiri Municipal District. Residents of nearby communities, including Timi, were advised to limit unnecessary movements and remain indoors. Any further instructions will be issued as needed.

Government and military coordination

The National Guard and Civil Defence teams worked together to implement these emergency measures, ensuring public safety while monitoring the situation closely. Authorities emphasized that the intercepts were successful and the situation remains under control.
