Kombos and Borrell on Middle East and Cyprus issue in Nicosia

Date:

Cyprus’ Minister of Foreign Affairs, Constantinos Kombos, and the outgoing EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, had a working lunch on Saturday in Nicosia, after an event organized by civil society organizations from Israel and Palestine (“Two-State Coalition for Israel and Palestine”), at which Borrell was the keynote speaker.

Kombos said in a post on X that their discussion focused on developments in the Middle East and an update on the Cyprus issue.

Borrell visited Cyprus in the framework of his tour to Middle East countries.

Cyprus has been divided since 1974, when Turkey invaded and occupied its northern third. Repeated rounds of UN-led peace talks have so far failed to yield results. The latest round of negotiations, in July 2017 at the Swiss resort of Crans-Montana ended inconclusively.
