Pregnant woman air-lifted to Israel for emergency delivery

Date:

A pregnant woman in her 35th week was air-lifted to Israel yesterday evening so she could safely deliver a baby that will require surgery after birth, Cyprus health authorities said.

Health Authorities Arrange Rapid Transfer

Monica Kyriakou, Director of Health Services at the Health Insurance Organisation (HIO), said the emergency transfer ensured the birth could be completed safely. She told the radio show Proino Dromologio that the foetus will need a surgical operation immediately after delivery.

HIO Oversees Growing Number of Transfers

Since taking over responsibility for sending patients abroad, the HIO has carried out 27 air ambulance transfers, Kyriakou said. Ten of these cases were classified as life-threatening, with transfers completed within hours to guarantee urgent care.
