Whale found dead on beach in occupied Akanthou

A whale was discovered dead on the beach of occupied Akanthou. The marine mammal is a male rorqual, measuring approximately 5 metres in length and weighing around 1.5 tonnes.

Authorities respond to incident

According to Kibrisgazetesi, the whale was located in the rocky areas of the coast. Officials are working intensively to remove the carcass and transfer it to a centre for necropsy to establish the cause of death.

Environmental concerns and next steps

Local authorities emphasise the importance of a swift removal to prevent environmental hazards and plan to carry out a thorough investigation once the whale is at the centre.
