Restoration work in fire-affected areas
An Alassa tree planting initiative took place on Sunday morning near the archaeological site of Alassa and the Church of Agios Georgios at the Kouris Dam, aiming to restore the natural environment in areas damaged by last July’s wildfire.
Joint initiative with support from the Forestry Department
According to an announcement, the tree planting was co-organised by the Alassa Community Council and AKEL, with practical support from the Forestry Department, which provided the plants free of charge.
To ensure the success of the restoration effort, only native plant species were selected. These species are drought-resistant, require minimal irrigation, and are fully adapted to Cyprus’s local soil and climate conditions.
Free saplings for participants
In addition, the Forestry Department distributed free saplings to those who took part in the tree planting, reaffirming its commitment to supporting initiatives that strengthen Cyprus’s environmental resilience and green protection.
