Authorities probe alleged investor discussions

The Cyprus Police are continuing investigations into a video that surfaced on 8 January, in which former Energy Minister George Lakkotrypis, ex-Presidential Office Director Charalambos Charalambous, and businessman George Chrysochos appear to discuss matters with alleged investors.

Police Spokesperson Vyronas Vyronos confirmed to CNA that “investigations are ongoing.”

Criminal inquiry ordered

The Attorney General, George Savvides, appointed an independent criminal investigator to examine any possible offences related to the leaked video. The inquiry must conclude as quickly as possible, and in any case within three months.

Depositions from all individuals appearing in the video began during the early days of the investigation.

Investigator details

Andreas Paschalidis, former Supreme Court Judge and President of the Complaints and Claims Authority against the Police, has been appointed as the criminal investigator.

The inquiry covers all aspects of the video, including:

  • Its content and authenticity
  • Its origin and production circumstances
  • The motives behind its creation and publication
  • Any other relevant issues uncovered during the investigation

Authorities continue to assess the evidence to determine whether any criminal actions occurred.
