Infant in serious condition at Makarios Hospital

A three-month-old infant is being treated in serious condition at Makarios Hospital after being admitted on Saturday (24 January). The father has been arrested for infant abuse following the child’s admittance.

The child was rushed to hospital for emergency medical treatment, prompting immediate concern among medical staff.

Medical findings point to infant abuse

According to information under investigation, doctors identified injuries consistent with infant abuse. Medical examinations led to a diagnosis of shaken baby syndrome, a serious condition caused by violent shaking that can result in severe neurological damage.

Hospital staff notified the authorities as required.

Father arrested as police investigation continues

Following the medical findings, police obtained an arrest warrant, and the father was arrested in connection with the infant abuse case.

The investigation is being handled by the Nicosia CID, which is continuing inquiries into the circumstances that led to the infant’s hospitalisation. Due to the sensitivity of the case, no further details have been released.

The infant remains under close medical supervision.
